DIY: Cotton & Lamb’s Ear Wreath

This wreath just might be my favorite DIY project yet!

Although this wasn’t exactly a low-budget project, I was able to create something that was exactly what I wanted without spending a ton of time or energy.

A year ago, this combination of florals wasn’t available in stores – and even though Etsy has now has cotton and lamb’s ear in all varieties, you can still save some serious cash by making your own!!

Here are the supplies you’ll need:

  • 1 cotton garland, 6 feet
  • 3 stems of lamb’s ear
  • Scissors

That’s it!

I got my cotton garland from Hobby Lobby. It’s $39.99, but don’t forget you can use a 40% off coupon for one item every day!!

I found my sprigs of lamb’s ear at Joann’s Fabrics.  They were a small percentage off the $5.99 price tag when I picked mine up, but today they are 40% off (only $3.58/stem!)

STEP 1:

Lay out your supplies and make sure you have a ratio of cotton to lamb’s ear that gives you the look you want to achieve.

STEP 2:

Form your cotton garland into a circle by wrapping and twisting the cotton around itself. Don’t worry about the longer pieces of cotton that are sticking straight out, you’ll need these to secure your sections of lamb’s ear in a moment!

STEP 3:

Remove the Lamb’s Ear from its long stem. Keep the smaller stems long to allow for anchoring it to the cotton garland. Tuck and weave the Lamb’s Ear into the cotton garland. Look for areas that need more fullness. Use the longer cotton sprigs to wrap around the Lamb’s Ear and hold everything in place.

STEP 4:

Continue placing and securing lamb’s ear in and around the cotton until the two mediums no longer look like they were ever separate pieces.

That’s all there is to it!! The easiest wreath that ever was!

This wreath could have lived in so many rooms in the house! I had trouble deciding: above the fireplace, on the front door, in the laundry room??

I ended up choosing to hang it above the bed in the guest room. A circular mirror lived there previously, but this wreath brought just the right bit of floral, freshness, interest and somehow coziness that the space needed.

The lamb’s ear also paired beautifully with the wall color! (It’s Sherwin Williams Comfort Gray – in case you were curious).

A 20 minute DIY wreath for only $40??

  • Cotton Garland (40% off): $25
  • Lamb’s Ear (3 @ $5): $15

This might just be my first DIY project that actually went even better than planned!! And it’s probably my first post under 500 words too! Nothing like my DIY Candy Corn Wreath that took two years for me to finish – no really. I’m still not 100% pleased with it. (Post coming on that one eventually…when my pride can get over its many many imperfections).

Have you made anything you love in 20 minutes lately? That’s seriously all the free time I have these days. Actually, I’m in the market for DIY in 20 minutes while I’m driving a car with a baby napping in the backseat. Those are the projects I need!!

On a totally unrelated note, I’m also desperate to paint something PINK lately! I even bought the most beautiful sample of pink paint yesterday. I need a pink project! Any little girls need something for their room?! Let me know! If not, I’m going to find a way to add pink to the master bedroom (I already have a plan – but not the time!) This one might just get me into some trouble with the hubby…but what is a boy mom supposed to do?!
