It’s been exactly one week and two days since we moved into our new home in Charlotte!
I have SO much to tell you, and so many things still to do!
My to-do list is both invigorating and overwhelming. I get exhausted just thinking about all the things I want to do, need to do, and have to do.
Before I go unpack another box (or more likely procrastinate by redecorating my built-ins…again) I wanted to sit down and at the very least SHOW you our new home!!
I’ve been drooling over the listing photos for this home since I first discovered it last July. It was everything I could do not to overshare photos once we were under contract, but I worried I might jinx everything and lose our dream home.
Thankfully, the whole process was SUPER smooth (minus a few issues with the utilities company turning off power, water, and gas on move-in day. UGH) and we are finally settling into our first real HOUSE.
*Pause for admiration*… *Sigh*
Guys, I’m in love. I get excited every time I drive up and catch a glimpse of our house. I hope that never wears off!!
This photo was taken in the fall when we first saw the home in person. I’ve been very busy taking photos inside, but somehow I still don’t have anything taken from the front yard. (Come to think of it, that could be because I’m actively making sure a certain surprisingly fast and clumsy toddler –are those synonymous? they should be!– doesn’t scrape his nose off as he runs gleefully down our driveway.
I digress…
I created a floor plan to help our movers know where to drop boxes, and promptly left it at my parents’ house the morning of the move.
They are hardly to scale and have minor inaccuracies, but at the very least these give you a feel for the overall layout and flow.
The room sizes are a bit off, but you can see it has everything we need and more! The family room even has a fireplace and built-in bookshelves (not shown due to user error and general lack of floor plan talent). I should also note, the back door leads to an incredible covered deck!
As you can see, we’ve got 4 bedrooms and a bonus room. The bonus room has two dormers and 3 decent storage spaces in the eaves.
Don’t mind the awkward green object in both images. Room Sketcher wanted me to know where I was standing for 3D walkthrough mode. My mom was concerned we had a large green toilet in the middle our house, so I wanted be sure to clear that up for everyone else.
Now, let’s look inside!
I snapped these photos as quickly as possible between closing on the house and running all of the last minute “Holy Moly we are moving in TOMORROW errands.”
That said, these will have to suffice.
THE FOYER/ENTRY
That’s a coat closet under the stairs.
That doorway in front of you leads into…
THE DINING ROOM
Walk through that doorway ahead into…
THE KITCHEN
The hallway on the right has a set of back stairs, a powder room, a door to the garage, a coat closet, and the entrance to the laundry room at the end of hallway.
THE BREAKFAST NOOK
Walking through the kitchen toward the fireplace leads you to…
THE FAMILY ROOM
The door on the right leads back to the foyer. The french doors lead to…
THE OFFICE/LIVING ROOM
Then head up the front stairs and into the smallest of the bedrooms.
BEDROOM ONE
Take the hallway to your right and you’re in…
THE MASTER BEDROOM
The door on the left leads to the…
MASTER BATH
The door ahead leads to a walk in shower and a toilet. There is a door directly across from the vanity that leads to a walk-in closet.
On your way back down the upstairs hallway you pass the…
SECOND FULL BATH
The other two doorways on the upstairs hall lead to…
BEDROOM THREE
and finally…
BEDROOM FOUR
This bedroom reveals the home’s biggest quirk. This bedroom has two entrances. The family who lived here before had 4 children and needed to attach the bonus room (as a bedroom) to the rest of the upstairs. It doesn’t bother me yet. I’ll keep you posted.
THE BONUS ROOM
That just leaves my absolute favorite part of this home…
THE COVERED DECK/BACKYARD
I think that covers it!! As you can see I have a lot of work to do! Thankfully, there aren’t any major projects to tackle before we can function normally in our home. I can just enjoy painting, decorating and revamping furniture for a while. Of course, I still have a few lofty dreams about ways to update certain rooms, but I want to live in the house for a while first to make sure my ideas truly fit the way we use the space.
That said, I already have one project in process that involved a little demolition… Even though I was only using a rubber mallet, it was still pretty fun!!! Any guesses?!
Can’t wait to share more with you soon!
